The Ranch · Family-Run Since 2011

Real gates, morning feed, horses with jobs.

Chisholm Trail Rides has been a family-run working ranch since 2011 — Laura and Dustin, the horses they've chosen one disposition at a time, and 200 acres that open onto more than a thousand acres of sandy-loam trail.

The horses come first

Everything out here starts with the horses. They're true pleasure horses, trained to listen and bond with their riders — chosen for disposition as much as ability, kept in real riding shape, and worked with ongoing training by the ranch team. You'll meet your horse before you ride, because the meeting is part of the ride. And when the horses need the day, the horses get the day; their welfare shapes every booking decision we make. That's not a policy so much as the reason any of this works.

The land

Two hundred acres of working ranch opening onto a thousand-plus acres of sandy-loam trail — shaded woods, open pasture, ponds fed by springs, and a two-acre stocked pond where afternoons tend to slow down. Just east of Dallas, located in Quinlan, Texas, adjacent to Lake Tawakoni. The drive is easy from Dallas, Plano, Richardson, and Greenville — and just as close for guests coming from Canton, Tyler, or Sulphur Springs.

Who finds their way here

Guests come from across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, from out of state, and from more than forty countries — and most come back. Some come for the saddle, some for the whole ranch, some to stay awhile. What they share is a respect for the land, the horses, and an unhurried way of spending a day. We ride with grace out here, and we always will.

As seen on

The ranch has hosted national productions over the years — featured on OWN's Finding Love with Marcus & Unique (Season 8, Episode 5), in Ebony, and in nationally shared holiday film segments — while staying exactly what it has always been: a family ranch that opens its gates to guests.

Come meet the ranch

The best introduction is the gate itself. Step onto the Front Porch and start the conversation, or come see the ranch days we shape.
