Good to Know

Everything worth knowing before your ranch day.

The short version of what guests ask most — and anything not answered here is exactly what the Front Porch is for.

How does booking work?

Booking begins online — pick your ranch day, and we shape it from the ranch side around your group. You're always welcome to book by call or text at 469-652-9849, by email at support@chisholmtrailrides.com, or right here through the Front Porch with the ranch team. Whichever door you walk through, we'll meet you there. Your reservation is confirmed when payment is complete, and your date is locked on the ranch calendar.

What should I wear?

Long pants and closed-toe shoes serve you best — boots or sneakers both work fine. A hat and sunscreen earn their keep on Texas afternoons. Come as you are; we'll have you covered either way.

Can children ride?

Children are welcome, and their days are shaped with extra care. Children under seven ride private and begin with a Meet the Horse session first, so horse and child settle in together before the ride. Group sizes with children stay small, with additional guides on the trail — it's care, not restriction, and it's why families come back.

What if the weather turns?

This is a working ranch, and Texas weather is part of the land. When conditions call for it — heat, storms, footing — we reshape or reschedule the day out of care for horses and guests alike. Your courtesy ride credit never expires; the ranch day is yours whenever the timing feels right.

How are horses matched to riders?

Individually, by the ranch team — disposition to disposition, rider by rider. Tell us about your group when you book: ages, experience, and anything that helps us match well. The matching is part of the shaping, and you'll meet your horse before you ride.

Do I need riding experience?

First ride or fiftieth, the horse meets you where you are. Every ride begins with an instructional arena warm-up, and your guide rides with you the whole way — teaching as much as leading.

What about phones and photos?

We love keeping ranch days as analog-free as possible too — more presence over pixels, with thoughtful candid moments captured for you throughout the day and quietly gathered by day's end, yours complimentary to take home and enjoy long after the day is over.
